About Seven Ochres Vineyard
Chris and Alice Harding have taken a roundabout route to the Margaret River, Chris' interest in wine blossoming while working at the Royal Sydney Yacht Squadron in the late 1970s, before moving to Scotland. He and wife Alice returned to Australia in 1994, immediately settling in the Margaret River Region with their young family. They established the Viticlone Supplies Grapevine Nursery, and now have over 60 wine grape varieties and more than 120 clones available. Some of the more exotic varieties in propagation are Vermentino, Fiano, Roussanne, Dolcetto, Mondeuse, Lagrein, Sagrantino, Cilliegiolo and Sangiovese Brunello di Montalcino to name but a few.
Located in the warmer northern part of the Margaret River Wine Region about 300km south of Perth in Western Australia the region, although only producing about 3% of Australia's wine, has achieved international recognition and aclaim for its premium quality wines.
The vineyard takes its name from the colourful earth and stones found on the property and adjacent to the creek that traverses it, and as a nod to the town of Sevenoaks in England where Chris was born.
All wines are produced on site in very limited quantities and can only be purchased by using this website's secure ONLINE ordering facility, by faxing an ORDER FORM or by phoning. There is no cellar door facility on site at the vineyard.
Viognier, the rare French white variety, was first planted on the property in 1998, initially to supply propagation material for the Viticlone Supplies Grapevine Nursery, a sister company of Seven Ochres. This variety is the flagship wine for Seven Ochres and is produced in extremely limited quantities each year. Other wines will include unusual varieties or blends which will be produced on an experimental basis to showcase their potential.
